One Year of Comics Doing Good

One Year of Comics Doing Good

Happy Birthday, Band of Bards!

Today we celebrate our first anniversary as a company. It’s been a busy year, one for us to be proud of. I’ve said this many times but Chris and I did not expect to be as far along after just one year as we find ourselves today.

A humble idea has grown and a community has formed. It’s a testament not to the acumen or talent of the founders, but of the wonderful people who have supported us and believed in what we are working towards. Two people alone aren’t going to make very much happen in comics. We can only hope to be a spark. The comics community is the fire.

What has our first year brought us?

Our first two on-going series are published and moving along. While the printing issues hampering the entire industry have also impacted us, it is a minor bump in the road all things considered. Final Gamble #2 is in production and Prospects #4 will begin work soon. Next stop for both titles is to the distributors for wider listing.

The next title coming up is Sentience, followed by Fell Witch, Bro-D Can’t Be Broken, From the Static, Hush Ronin, Reluctant Hero, and Magni the Mighty. We’re incredibly proud of this line up, and that our small indie comics press is able to bring such incredible works to you so soon. We have a busy Year-2 ahead of us, it’s going to be fun!

Speaking of Sentience, you should definitely pay attention for an announcement next week.

During this first year we’ve been so lucky to work with amazing creators, meet kind comics peeps like Melissa Meszaros & Oriana Leckert, and collaborate with other small presses & self-publishing creators. So many friends from the Phoenix Comics Collective and throughout the comics community have exemplified what Comics Doing Good is all about.

As we’ve forged our own path in this industry we’ve found homes for our comics online at both GlobalComix and DriveThruComics. We’ve begun to build out our own online shop. We’ve landed our first spot tabeling at the Rochester Indie Comics Expo on April 2. We have found an International distribution partner in Buy Small Press which will allow us to send comics around the world at regular domestic US shipping prices. Our hope is to make our comics as affordable to fans outside the US as they are for fans inside the US.

There’s always more you wish you had accomplished, but for two working stiffs taking on an industry littered with barriers and gates I’d say we’ve done pretty well so far.

Without a doubt we have a lot to celebrate today. To mark this occasion we’re holding a giveaway. Details will be announced later today, but you’ll have a chance to win a BoB t-shirt and lifetime access to our digital library of comics. I know everyone goes wild for a t-shirt, but I think scoring free digital comics for life just might be slightly more popular.

Thanks for being part of our first year. Chris and I are looking forward to this second year and many more to come.
