Interview with Jordan Plosky of Zoop, Part II

Interview with Jordan Plosky of Zoop, Part II

We had Jordan Plosky, co-founder & CEO of Zoop, join us on our BardCast on March 18. While it was a great discussion with lots of info shared about this new comics-centered crowdfunding platform we still had more questions than we did time. There are a lot of creators out there who want to learn more about Zoop so we sent along a few follow up questions to Jordan, including one from a viewer, and he was happy to answer all.

Below is a read out of the follow up…

Tim Stolinski – Can you talk about building the Zoop team? You have a small team with lots of different skills and also brought on some people to advise on various areas. How did you approach this task and what were your priorities?

Jordan Plosky –  We each bring something different to the table, and that’s what you need.  Complementary skill-sets, but more importantly, personalities that work well together. I come from the world of startups, and this is my second company, so I have that knowledge.  Eric (Moss) has done multiple successful crowdfunding campaigns before forming Zoop, so he brings that to the table.  We’ve known each other for a few years even before partnering on this, so that helped as well.

TS – What are the values that drive Zoop?

JP – It’s a really cool thing to help people bring their creations to life.  We don’t take that for granted.  It’s a really great thrill to see successful campaigns, and what it means for creators.  We also stand for diversity, allowing every voice to be heard, equality, allyship, and bringing joy.  There’s no room for hate speech, or bringing anyone down.  Zoop is not the place for that.

Edit. note – read here for more on Zoop’s Values and Philosophy

TS – How does Zoop see itself as a part of the larger comics community?

JP – I hope we’re adding value!  If we can be a place that allows creators another avenue to get their projects made, keep control of their IP, and thrive, then we’re doing something right.  We’d love to become a significant driver in the industry, but only time will tell on that!

TS – Why comics?

JP – It’s what we love, and know.  Eric and I both have backgrounds in the industry, and are lifelong fans.  It just makes sense to work on the things you’re passionate about, and for us, it’s comics!

TS – What’s the big picture goal and how does 2022 build towards that?

JP – We’ve already more than doubled the amount of campaigns in 2022 than we did in 2021, so the growth has been amazing, and we have some more unannounced projects in the queue.  So, looking to end strong this year, and dabble in some other areas as well.  For example, we’re doing a campaign with the Rocketeer estate for a puzzle, t-shirt, art print, and more.  No comics, but comic-adjacent stuff.

TS – Can you give an update on The Wintermen Artist Edition, specifically related to fulfillment? (viewer question)

JP – The book is with the printer!  All giclee art prints have been printed, and will soon be on the way to their respective artists for signatures!  Once that’s all done, all merchandise will meet up at our fulfillment center for shipping to customers!

I hope this follow up was helpful, and you you missed the livestream you can always catch the recordings for a short time on our Twitch channel, and over the long term on our YouTube channel. Please be sure to follow/subscribe!
